Our Top Three Shirt Dress Sewing Patterns
If you were inspired by our previous post about Jules’s shirt dress, we have put together our favourite Shirt dress sewing patterns. A shirt dress is a great project if you want a smart, tailored garment. It is easily layered with a jumper, cardigan or blazer and just as good all on its own. Furthermore, it can be worn with or without leggings or trousers, making it an all-season piece of clothing. One item with many different looks and possibilities. These patterns are additionally useful as they provide you length options. So you can make a dress for one project and a shirt for another.
Our top choices are:
As the majority of our fabrics are light to medium weight cotton, they work well with all these patterns. Our wax prints in particular have a crisp handle and make for a great finish on collars, cuffs and the like. You will need about 3 to 4 yards of fabric. A Shirt dress is a great way to show off a nice print as there is room for the print to shine.
Kalle Shirtdress from CLOSET CASE
The Kalle shirt pattern is a popular pattern as it suits many body shapes. We are particularly loving the curves which give the shirt a softer look. Needing inspiration? You can check out what people have made from the instagram tag KalleShirtDress.
I Am Libellule from I AM PATTERNS
I AM Libellule is a from the French Indie pattern company, I Am Patterns. This option is designed in such a way that it can even be made into a jacket simply by changing up the fabric choice. With the concealed button placket, a denim, canvas or light wool will give you a modern sleek jacket! Check out the IAmLibellule tag on Instagram for some inspiration.
Hermes Shirt from I AM PATTERNS
I AM Hermes is also from I Am Patterns and the closest to a more traditional shirt pattern. Nevertheless, it is still a great wardrobe staple that can be made up in so many ways. Be it in a bold print or a simple block colour.
So what do you think? Is a shirt dress an option for your next sewing project? If you have already made one, do share to inspire us and others.
