This is the original shweshwe fabric from South Africa and it is available in a number of prints. Shweshwe is a medium weight cotton with a good drape. It is great for dressmaking, crafting, quilting and much more.

The recommendation is that you ALWAYS WASH Shweshwe fabric before sewing. This will remove the stiffness of the fabric.
ABOUT SHWESHWE FABRIC
Shweshwe is a printed dyed cotton fabric widely used in traditional South African clothing; dresses, skirts, and so on. It was originally dyed indigo but is now manufactured in a variety of colours and designs. The formal name for shwe shwe is ‘Indigo-dyed discharge printed fabric’. It is a trademarked fabric and is manufactured by Da Gama Textiles in the Zwelitsha township outside King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
