A modern design twist on traditional African tie-dye fabric. This fabric is hand-drawn and hand-dyed in Nigeria and consists of traditional Yoruba symbols each with a name and story. The stories are often words of advice from the elders, or a means of documenting social, economic and environmental conditions. The fabric is therefore like a piece of Yoruba art.

For an idea of the scale of the patterns in the fabric look at the last image above. Each ‘rectangle’ in the fabric design measures approximately 12 x 16 inches.

The fabric is 48 inches in width and is 2.4 yards in length which is approximately 2.2 metres.

COLOURS: We photograph the fabric in natural daylight and make every effort to represent the colours as accurately as possible, nevertheless colours may display differently depending on the monitors/screens they are viewed on.

Also, if you have purchased this fabric before, it may not be exactly the same as the one shown. Due to the unpredictable and organic nature of the dyeing process of batik, the outcome often varies.

MORE YARDAGE: This fabric is also available as a 4.8 yard (4.4 metre) length here.
