Ankara Appreciation Week 2024
Its time for Ankara Appreciation Week 2024. It runs from the 15th to the 20th of July and culminates in a picnic in the park on Saturday 20th July at Highbury Fields, North London. Perfect opportunity to dress up in your colourful ‘memade’ outfit and hang out with fellow fabric and sewing lovers.
Have you made an outfit out of African wax print aka Ankara and just loved it? Enjoying the sewing and then the wearing of a garment, surely is the perfect match. Here’s your chance to show off your make and check out what others have been making. There’s nothing like a gallery of different outfits and pattern ideas to get the creative juices flowing.
Ankara appreciation week is a fun online social media event whereby people share things they have made with this vibrant and colourful cloth.
The event has been put together by Juilet Uzor and Lena King mainly on Instagram with a dedicated hashtag #sewankarafabric24
Join in the fun by posting and tagging your Ankara garment on Instagram from the 15th to 20th July. You will also enjoy the huge variety of makes by other sewists using the hashtag. It’s bound to be a lot of fun with plenty of inspiration.
