The Folkwear Sarouelles pattern consists of three comfortable trousers designs from Turkey, Africa, and India, with elastic or drawstring waist and ankle variations included. These full and flowing easy-sew styles are perfect for casual wear, yoga, belly dancing, or costuming. Historical lore and traditional embroidery designs are included.
Turkish Trousers: View A- for full and flowing trousers, gathered at the waist with a drawstring and at the ankles with elastic.
African Sarouelles: View B- these are sized for men and women, have a simple drawstring waist with legs that taper to the ankle. Inseam gussets allow for freedom of movement. These comfortable trousers are quick and easy to sew.
Indian Trousers: View C- the legs of these trousers are gathered in the front above the thighs into a wide hip panel, which rises to a drawstring waist. Shaped cuffs above the ankle are faced and traditionally embellished with simple machine embroidery. Instructions and four embroidery designs are given in the Sarouelles Lore and Embroidery insert.
This is a paper pattern and is sized (American sizing) from SMALL to 2XL. It is a unisex pattern.
The Turkish trousers look best in lightweight sumptuous fabrics with drape, such as rayon challis, chiffon, or gauze. For African and Indian trousers, choose medium-weight fabrics such as cotton, silk, rayon, wool, or blends.
